Training with Fire Department

We are now having training with fire department.This is a good opportunity for me because I didn't know that fire has types of groups and is going to boost my curriculum vitae.Soon we are going to be taught how to swim,so that we can be able to help people if they are drowning and thats good for me because I don't know how to swim.

A SINGLE STEP

Indeed, it begins with a single step. We started with one computer, one lecturer, one lesson at a time, one class and, most importantly, one vision: where there is a way, there is a will. Since September 2012, it has been a rough ride but we are still going strong, day by day.

One may wonder: what are you talking about? World Disaster Management Community College. I must say that I did know much about disaster management. I only saw and heard about it on the news. I did not know there is a lot in it. It only took three weeks for Mr. Landon Densely, a lecturer and a mentor in this college, to arrive and gave me an idea of what is disaster management. He bombarded us with lot of information, illustrated with some examples of his past experience in disasters as Emergency Manager. We really appreciate his presence. He has been of greate assistance to us. We can now talk the whole day about disaster management. In fact, we created our own family Emergency Operation Plans (EOP) as part of our academic course, and we are now busy with Kanana Secondary School EOP, which we hope to finish by end of January.

We have more than 20 computers working, all with internet access. We can check our e-mails, search on the internet and take FEMA online exams. The interesting part of online test is we can access our certificates on our e-mails and print them  if we like. With these, we can see our progress. I have seen excitement in all of the students after passing every test they take. Every course that we did is on the computers.

Every one we meet, Police, Disaster Management office, Fire chief, want to help in anyhow. We would gladly appreciate any help we can get for this college. We also appreciate everything everybody is doing to keep us going, from college management to every student. As Sir Isaac Newton said: “It is by standing on other people’s shoulders to see further”. We need each other.

What a great moment!! Today I got the opportunity to speak with Ms. Jan for the first time. The first time I saw her was at Mmokeng Secondary School in Kanana, the year was 2006, that day I did not get a chance to talk to her which made me sad. I never thought I would get a chance again. 

Today in class I was so excited to finally get a chance to talk to someone from America and specifically Ms. Jan.  She motivated me a lot and told us about the many great opportunities that are out there when we finish our schooling in disaster management.

Drive

It takes a lot of self-drive to be patient and focused to achieve everything that will make your future stable at all angles for a long term. I learned that opportunities comes once and I have to grab everything with appreciating hands, make use of my time wisely and be the best I can be.

I believe that this college is going to open doors for me to a bright future and for other students.    

from zero to hero

World Disaster Management Community College is a very big opportunity for all Kanana pupils. the first time I heared about this collage I could already smell success  and I was so excited I felt like I was over the moon. When the school started I was not so impressed because everything was so slow, no computers , no stationary, no internet and other study materials, but well when time goes on  things changed everything was so different and perfect .We now have access  24 computers all connected to the internet, we have our ID numbers from FEMA we are now able to write online tests and everything is so interesting about this college. I am so proud to be a student at this college because more people envy us  and there is a lot of progress in our lives since this has came into our lives.I am very greatful to everyone who is envolved in this college because is not everyone  who can offer this life time opportunity to people he or she doesn't even know. There is nothing more important in my life than education, its a key to my success and it is the only way that I have to follow in order to achieve my goals,

My thoughts about first semester

At the beginning of first semester things was a bit hard for me because I did not know a thing about this course and it was challenging for me not having a lecture standing in front of a class and make a proper introduction about what exactly is emergency management. Things turned out good the moment every student takes part on teaching the class based on the lessons that was created for us. We learned a lot from each other and it was worth it.

The arrival of Mr. Landon, he really has an impact on the school and he is a wonderful lecture and I appreciate what he is doing for all the student of this college. I gained a lot of information from him about the course and computer skills, now I am able to do almost everything on my own.

Having an access on the internet and been able to write FEMA tests that’s a big progress. Things are getting better every day, all thanks to the God, the students, parents, lectures and many more. This college is going to be a success.

Great days since the 7Jan 2013

Since we've startered  on  the 7 January 2013 we have stareted with the spirit because we had our student numbers we are able to take FEMA training independent studies tests thats a good start, and know we are looking forward.It was great for me writting tests and receiving certifigates after taking tests,know the is  a good great improvement in my College WORLD DISASTER COMMUNITY COLLEGE(WDMCC) am looking forward no more turning back.Thank you for the effort that you are taking for us thank you Ms Jan,Kay goss ,Dr Zodwa,Dr Zachlod,Mr London and many more.
