Some have perception that terrorist attacks are unlikely in Africa. Well, that is no longer a case. We have just witnessed such attacks in Kenya. This could happen to any country. Other countries in Africa should learn from Kenyan Mall attack. Mall officials should tighten their securities and must have a plan that is comprehensive. All phases of Emergency/Disaster Management must be adhered to; Preparedness, Response, Recovery and Mitigation. A comprehensive Disaster/Emergency Operation Plan (D/E.O.P), coupled with drills and exercises to ensure that every employee is familiar with the plan and know what to in case of these attacks or any emergency, will ensure that we are not caught off guard.
At first I thought that as Africans we are safe, and that there will never be terrorists in our continent. I thought that terrorism ended on the 11th September 2001 in the United State but now I see that it continues. It just recently happened in Kenya last month (September 2013). I am asking myself what will happen if it happens in my country. This terrorism must END! We are human beings we should love one another. If you need something you should ask instead of terrorizing people, because people end up losing their lives. This brings me to something that we are studying: Emergency/Disaster Management. All phases of Emergency Management should be adhered to in our continent so that we can be prepared as always for any disaster/emergency or such attacks. Let’s be PREPARED Africans!
